IPPS "History of Medicine"
Διιδρυματικό με τη συμμετοχή του Τμήματος Ιστορίας και Εθνολογίας της Σχολής Κλασικών και Ανθρωπιστικών Σπουδών του Δημοκρίτειου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης. Σκοπός του ΔΠΜΣ είναι η μελέτη της εξέλιξης της ιατρικής και της ένταξής της σε ευρύτερο κοινωνικό και πολιτισμικό πλαίσιο. Αποκαλύπτονται οι καθοριστικοί παράγοντες της υγείας και της νόσου μέσω έρευνας σε κοινωνικό και επιστημονικό επίπεδο, τόσο σε επιδημικές όσο και σε χρόνιες νόσους. Διασαφηνίζεται πώς η μελέτη της ιστορίας μπορεί να βοηθήσει στην εκλεπτυσμένη κατανόηση ευρέως φάσματος ερωτημάτων και διλημμάτων της σύγχρονης ιατρικής. Η εκπαίδευση αφορά σε δύο βασικές κατευθύνσεις: Ιστορία της Ιατρικής και Βιολογική Ανθρωπολογία.

Specific admission requirements
PTYCHIO (Degree from a University in Greece or from a recognized foreign institution of equivalent status or from a Technological Education Institute). This Interuniversity Postgraduate Specialisation Degree (IPGSD) program accepts graduates from Medical and Dental Schools, Departments of History, Biology, History and Ethnology, History and Archaeology, Philology and other similar faculties / departments or equivalent foreign institutes with relative scientific field, after succeeding in entry examinations. Furthermore, this IPGSD program accepts graduates from other University Departments /Faculties as well as graduates from Technological Education Institutes and other Schools of Higher Education.
Qualification requirements and regulations, profile of the programme, key learning outcomes and occupational profiles
According to Law 1674/16-5-2017, for the acquisition of the Interuniversity Postgraduate Specialization Degree "History of medicine and Biological Anthropology: Health, Disease, and Natural Selection", postgraduate students have to complete a set of courses extending over 4 semesters, which corresponds to 120 ECTS (Law 67145/B7, Law 1889/2007/Β7).
Τhey have to attend and successfully be examined in 12 subjects (Background-General Knowledge, Scientific Area, Dexterity Development), which are divided as follows: a) In the 1st semester (30 ECTS) - 4 subjects b) In the 2nd semester (30 ECTS) - 4 subjects and c) In the 3rd semester (30 ECTS) - 4 subjects. In the 4th semester (30 ECTS) they design and accomplish their Postgraduate Thesis, which they publicly defend and, on which they are subsequently being examined. The program aims at the specialization of a spectrum of scientists in History of Medicine and Biological Anthropology.
The aim of the IPGSD is to study the evolution of medicine and to subsume it in wider social and cultural scope. The determining factors of health and disease are revealed through research in social and scientific level, in epidemic and in chronic illnesses. It is made clear how studying history may assist in the refined understanding of a wide range of questions and dilemmas of modern medicine. Training refers to two basic specializations: History of medicine and Biological Anthropology.
Apart from the basic scientific knowledge, postgraduate students acquire the following abilities: 1) to apply knowledge to practice, 2) to search, analyze and synthesize data and information using appropriate technology, 3) to work individually, in teams or / and multidisciplinary scientific environment, 4) to adjust to new situations and take decisions, 5) to comprehend information in a foreign language, 6) to produce new ideas and scientific knowledge, 7) to show responsibility, 8) to develop critical ability and 9) to promote free, productive and inductive thought.

Access to further studies
The qualification is a terminal award and allows access to doctoral studies.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the marks of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education. The grading scheme for the qualification of the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Study Program follows the following distribution : (Ministerial Decision no Φ.1231/Β1/425 art.60, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1099/2000/B):

Minimum passing grade : 6 (AUTH Rule of Procedure Α.Π.Θ., no 127/2-2-11).
Graduation requirements
4 SEMESTERS, 120 ECTS
A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units and each semester to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) (1ECTS= 25-30). Compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one (Ministerial Decision no Φ5/89656/β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B).
