Efstratios Kosmidis received his B.Sc. in Biology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1998. As an undergraduate student he conducted his dissertation thesis in Neurophysiology in the Laboratory of Animal Physiology under the supervision of Professor George Theophilidis. In 2002, he received his Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience from the Pierre et Marie Curie University, Paris, France under the supervision of Dr. Jean- François Vibert, MCU-PH. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow and later on a Research Associate in the Yale Medical School, New Haven, USA from 2002 to 2006. He conducted research in the field of optical neural recordings working with Professor Lawrence B. Cohen. During the summer months the laboratory was transferred and continued research activities to the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, USA. He then worked as a Research Associate in the Laboratory of Animal Physiology in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 2006 to 2008 with Professor George Theophilidis in a research project funded by the Pythagoras II program. Dr. Efstratios Kosmidis was elected a Lecturer of Physiology in the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in January 2009. He is currently a tenured Assisting Professor of Physiology - Neurophysiology. His research interests include optical recordings using genetically encoded voltage indicators and computational neuroscience.
