Academic biographical notes
I have graduated the School of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), and the Medical School of the same institution. I had postgraduate research training at the University of Texas at Austin, USA, as teaching assistant, and at the University College London (UCL, UK), at the center for neurosciences as research assistant; at UCL I have learned a considerable amount of scientific thinking and experimental techniques on neuromuscular interactions from Professor Gerta Vrbova, which remain my main field of interest. I have also visited Universität Konstanz, Fakultät für Biologie, in Germany, under a Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft scholarship.
In 1987 I was appointed lecturer in the department of Physiology of the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where I am currently Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Physiology. I have served as vice President of the School of Medicine, AUTH, and directed many educational and administrative committees of it. I have also been head of the central committee for the graduate studies in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for 5 years, and of the School of Medicine for 7 years. Finally, I have been editor of a bimonthly periodical of our School of Medicine for many years. 
 During my academic carrier I have collaborated with colleagues from UCL, Imperial College in UK, Universita degli studi di Siena in Italy, Universitaet Konstanz in Germany, and Columbia University (NY USA) and I have been invited as speaker in meetings at University College London, Universita degli studi di Siena at University of Manitoba and at 44th Muscle Congress at Warsaw.
My research interests focused on neurophysiology with specific emphasis on the interrelationships between nerve and muscles, and on muscle research. My research work has been published in many journals and presented in many national and international meetings and congresses. I have supervised 9 doctoral dissertations, one currently in collaboration with Ass. Prof. G Z Mentis from Columbia University (ΝΥ, USA), and many postgraduate theses prepared at the Aristotle university of Thessaloniki as well as at the University of Macedonia at Thessaloniki.
I have participated as scientific and organizing committee in many national and international meetings, and as General Secretary I organized 2 meetings of the School of Medicine.
I have been vice President of The Physiological Society of Greece for 4 years and President for 4 more years.
I teach many courses (Physiology, applied Physiology, Exercise Physiology, systemic Physiology, Neurophysiology) in undergraduate and graduate students of the Medical, Dental and Pharmacology students. The last 5 years I am coordinating the English graduate program “Medical Research Methodology of the Medical School of AUTh
I have participated in translation and editing of several books of Medical Physiology and I have written and edit one book of Physiology.
