Abstract

Superficial fungal infections are among the most frequent skin diseases worldwide. Potential shifts in their epidemiological pattern are of great diagnostic and therapeutic importance. The large-scale emigration in Europe has led many people to live in excessively congested places with limited access to proper hygiene and essential sanitation conditions. Therefore, an increase in the incidence of fungal infections in this population is to be expected. Yet is this influx of immigrants capable to redraw the epidemiological landscape of dermatophytosis?
