IPPS "Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine"
The Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program "Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine" has been operating since the spring semester of 2020 and offers theoretical and practical training in the field of stem cells research and applications in various medical specialties. The topics cover the origin and biology of stem cells, the combination with biomaterials and scaffolds, isolation and cryopreservation, quality control methods, their role in transplantations and in improving the viability and quality of grafts and finally the applications in various medical specialties.

Qualification awarded STEM CELLS AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE
Level of qualification Postgraduate
Specific admission requirements
In the MSc entitled "Stem cells and Regenerative Medicine" are admitted graduates of Departments of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Nursing, Department of Medical Laboratories, as well as graduates of other related departments A.E.I. and a.T.E.I. or equivalent foreign institutes with relative scientific field. The attendance of additional courses may be deemed necessary for graduates of departments with less relevance of the subject, following a decision of EDE. Candidates can also be senior students, who will have successfully completed their undergraduate studies before the end of enrollment and will meet all the requirements for admission to the MSc.
Qualification requirements and regulations, profile of the programme, key learning outcomes and occupational profiles
According to Law 4783/24.12.2019 and Law 5470/11.12.2020, for the acquisition of the Postgraduate Specialization Degree "Stem cells and Regenerative Medicine", postgraduate students have to complete a set of courses extending over 4 semesters, which corresponds to 120 ECTS (Law 67145/B7, Law 1889/2007/?7). They have to attend and successfully be examined to 12 subjects (Background-General Knowledge, Scientific Area, Dexterity Development), which are divided as follows: a) In the 1st semester (30 ECTS) - 4 subjects b) In the 2nd semester (30 ECTS) - 4 subjects and c) In the 3rd semester (30 ECTS) - 4 subjects. In the 4th semester (30 ECTS) they design and accomplish their Postgraduate Thesis, which they defend publicly and, subsequently, being examined. The program aims to the specialization of a spectrum of scientists in Stem cells and Regenerative Medicine.
The scope of the MSc, which takes place at the Department of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, is the study and research of stem cell biology. Special emphasis is also given on the research and applications of Regenerative Medicine in medical specialties, both in the theoretical background and in the applications in clinical practice. In this way, modern areas of Biology and Medicine are combined with areas of Chemistry, Pharmacology, Bioethics and Entrepreneurship.
The aim of the program is to cultivate and promote scientific knowledge and research in the above fields. In particular, the program aims to provide high-level postgraduate studies, to train students with basic scientific knowledge and laboratory skills for the interdisciplinary approach of research , to provide education and specialized knowledge in the field of Stem cell biology and Regenerative Medicine, to promote research and academic work in these fields, to specialize doctors, biologists-biotechnologists and other graduates of biomedical departments through systematic practical training in order to provide high-level research and scientific work, to promote interdisciplinary cooperation and research on development of new medical technologies and applications, and to develop critical thinking during the preparation of high-level master thesis, which is required for doctoral-level studies.
Professional status (if applicable)
Professional qualification is not applicable in the public or private sector.
Access to further studies
The qualification is a terminal award and allows access to doctoral studies.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the marks of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education. The grading scheme for the qualification of the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Study Program follows the following distribution : (Ministerial Decision no Φ.1231/Β1/425 art.60, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1099/2000/B):
