Laboratory of Biochemistry, AHEPA General Hospital of Thessaloniki
The Laboratory of Biochemistry is situated in AHEPA University General Hospital of Thessaloniki. It is a Clinical Biochemistry laboratory performing numerous tests for all hospitalized patients and others examined in the Outpatient Clinics of the hospital, with significant contribution in diagnosis and prevention of diseases, as well as in the follow up of patients under treatment.
The Laboratory of Biochemistry plays an important educational role as it trains residents of Medical Biopathology-Laboratory Medicine for one year of the five of the residency, offering acquaintance with high-throughput methods and analyzers of the latest technology, as well as by its educational program of weekly lessons, in collaboration with the Laboratory of Microbiology. Moreover, undergraduate students of School of Medicine are also trained in the laboratory though the course of Clinical Biochemistry (4th semester).
Furthermore, a new Fellowship program has began on "Clinical Biochemistry" including two positions, of a Clinical Fellow and a Research Fellow.
In relation to research, the Laboratory of Biochemistry is in collaboration with the Clinical Departments of AHEPA Hospital and other Hospitals of Northern Greece for several research projects, MScs and PhDs.

The equipment that is installed in the Laboratory of Biochemistry includes:
- Nine automatic analyzers (four immunologiucal and five biochemical), a fully automatic preanalytical system (ROCHE Diagnostics)
- One automated biochemical analyzer for urine analysis (ROCHE DIagnostics)
- One automatic analyzer for urine sediment microscopy analysis (Menarini)
- One automatic analyzer for urine analysis with flow cytometry technology (Sysmex)
- One automatic analyzer for urine protein immunoassays (SEBIA)
- One automatic analyzer for drug levels (ROCHE DIAGNOSTICS)
- Two centrifuges
- One optical microscope
- One ELISA photometer and one automatic ELISA rinsing device

In the Laboratory of Biochemistry of AHEPA General Hospital of Thessaloniki a great number of assays are performed in serum, plasma, urine and other biological fluids. These assays include:
- common biochemical parameters (glucose, urea, creatinine, etc)
- enzymes (transaminases, lipase, etc)
- Lipids
- Thyroid hormones and antibodies
