PPS "Social - Preventive Medicine and Quality in Healthcare"
The School of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences of AUTh, organizes and operates the Postgraduate Program of Studies (PPS - equivalent to MSc) in "Social- Preventive Medicine and Quality in Health Care”. The MSc aims to provide its students with a high scientific level, necessary to demonstrate the ability to contribute to the theoretical and applied fields of Social - Preventive Medicine and Quality in Health Care. Providing specialized knowledge and skills to graduates will give them the qualifications to enter careers in: public or private research and educational institutions, institutes or health-related organizations, disease prevention or control services or public health services at local, regional and national level, as well as health care services, contributing to the improvement of quality of their services. The MSc offers two specializations: “Prevention and Public Health” and “Quality in Health Care”. Selection Process: Application & Interview. Courses start in October.

Specific admission requirements
This Postgraduate Program of Studies accepts:
1.Graduates of the Departments of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery and Visiting Health.
2.Graduates of other relevant Schools or Departments., with a special interest in Social-Preventive Medicine and Quality in health care.
3.Graduates of other Departments and Schools, who have at least two years of professional experience, with proven tenure in the field of Public Health, Social-Preventive Medicine or quality assessment in care health.
4. Members of the E.E.P., E.D.I.P. and E.T.E.P. categories, as long as they meet the conditions of the first paragraph of par. 1 of article 34, can be registered as extra students and only one per year, in programs organized in the Departments of the Foundation which they serve, that is relevant to their degree and the work they perform
The admission of students is based on the ranking score of their documented qualifications andoral interview.
Qualification requirements and regulations, profile of the programme, key learning outcomes and occupational profiles
To obtain the Postgraduate Diploma in "Social-Preventive Medicine and Quality in Health Care"
with a specialization in "Prevention and Public Health" or "Quality in Health Care", depending on the specialization chosen, the postgraduate students are required to attend and successfully complete eight (8) courses, which correspond to 60 ECTS and are distributed as follows: a) in the 1st semester (30 ECTS), four (4) compulsory core courses,, b) in the 2nd semester (30 ECTS), three (3)compulsory courses for each specialization and one (1) of the three (3) available elective courses depending on the specialization [there are two (2) common elective courses and one (1) different one in each specialization]. The postgraduate students are required to complete ninety (90) ECTS, as follows: a) Sixty (60) ECTS from successfully attending the offered courses of the 1rst and 2nd semester and b) Thirty (30)ECTS from designing, preparing, writing and successfully defending their Postgraduate Thesis in a subject related to the chosen specialization, in the third semester.
The aim of the program is the promotion of knowledge, the development of research, as well as the satisfaction of the educational, research, social, cultural and development needs of the country in the training of high-level scientists, capable of contributing to theoretical and applied areas of Social-Preventive Medicine and Quality in Health Care.
Graduates of Postgraduate Program they are expected to know, understand and be able to apply principles of the scientific fields of Social Medicine, Public Health, Preventive Medicine, as well as the Quality of Health Care in their professional activity. Specifically, they will delve into the set of factors that determine health and the applications of Preventive Medicine both in daily clinical practice and in Public Health. They will be able to apply the international practices of quality improvement in health care, which is an internationally cutting-edge subject, in the parameters of safety, effectiveness, efficiency, timely delivery, equity and patient-centeredness. In addition, they will understand the basic principles of epidemiology and research methodology in order to acquire the knowledge required both for the critical reading of the international literature and for the design, implementation and presentation of a research study. The provision of specialized knowledge and skills will equip the graduates to staff social-preventive medicine and public health services at a local, regional or national level, as well as health care services, contributing to control and improving the quality of their services.

Access to further studies
The qualification is a terminal award and allows access to doctoral studies.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the marks of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education. The grading scheme for the qualification of the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Study Program follows the following distribution (Ministerial Decision No F.1231/B1/425 art.60, Hellenic Government Gazette No 1099//2000/B):

Minimum passing grade: 6,00 (six) (AUTh Rule of Procedure, No 127/2-2-2011).
Graduation requirements
Three (3) semesters, 90 ECTS. A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units and each semester to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) (1 ECTS=25-30 hours). Compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one ( Ministerial Decision No. F5/89656/B3, art.1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette No 1466/2007/B).
